Chatting With Andy Schumm

Andy Schumm is a jazz musician/ jazz historian, and sitting down to chat with him has been a wonderful learning experience. Andy touches on interesting facts like the beginning and rise of Jazz as well as his own personal life working with Chicago Jazz music. The hard facts come in on subjects like ragtime, Louis Armstrong, the lineage of “jazz kings,” and Bix Beiderbecke, and the wealth of knowledge Andy displays will make you want to take a class from him on music history. As we get further into the chat, Andy shares with me some of what to do and what not to do when it comes to forming a band. He name drops the venues he, and his band “The Chicago Cellar Boys," plays at around Chicago. If you are listening to this episode from Chicago or plan to vacation to Chicago anytime soon, catching one of his weekly performances will be a must. We close the chat out with discussion on the future of his musical and historian career. Andy has big plans for starting a music festival that brings together big players from many genres of music, so you’ll have to be sure to follow his journey in order to not miss that once in a lifetime experience.
